Multiple Angle Observations Would Benefit Visible Band Remote Sensing Using Night Lights

چکیده
The spatial and angular emission patterns of artificial natural light emitted, scattered, reflected from the Earth at night are far more complex than those for scattered solar radiation during daytime. In this commentary, we use examples to show that there is additional information contained in distribution emitted light. We argue could be used improve existing remote sensing retrievals based on lights, some cases make entirely new analyses possible. This work will challenging, so hope article encourage researchers funding agencies pursue further study how multi-angle views can analyzed or acquired.

متن کاملAssessment of scan-angle dependent radiometric bias of Suomi-NPP VIIRS day/night band from night light point source observations
The low gain stage of VIIRS Day/Night Band (DNB) on Suomi-NPP is calibrated using onboard solar diffuser. The calibration is then transferred to the high gain stage of DNB based on the gain ratio determined from data collected along solar terminator region. The calibration transfer causes increase of uncertainties and affects the accuracy of the low light radiances observed by DNB at night. Sin...
متن کاملA visible band index for remote sensing leaf chlorophyll content at the canopy scale
Leaf chlorophyll content is an important variable for agricultural remote sensing because of its close relationship to leaf nitrogen content. The triangular greenness index (TGI) was developed based on the area of a triangle surrounding the spectral features of chlorophyll with points at (670 nm, R670), (550 nm, R550), and (480 nm, R480), where R is the spectral reflectance at wavelengths of 67...
متن کاملBand Selection for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing
In hyperspectral remote sensing, sensors acquire reflectance values at many different wavelength bands, to cover a complete spectral interval. These measurements are strongly correlated and no new information might be added when increasing the spectral resolution. Moreover, the higher number of spectral bands increases the complexity of a classification task. Therefore, feature extraction is a ...
متن کاملWide-band/angle Blazed Surfaces using Multiple Coupled Blazing Resonances
Blazed gratings can reflect an oblique incident wave back in the path of incidence, unlike mirrors and metal plates that only reflect specular waves. Perfect blazing (and zero specular scattering) is a type of Wood's anomaly that has been observed when a resonance condition occurs in the unit-cell of the blazed grating. Such elusive anomalies have been studied thus far as individual perfect bla...
